Choose 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 Training
Families can choose between individual private training and a 2-on-1 session using the buddy pass option.
1-on-1 private training gives one athlete the coach’s full attention, shaped around their current ability, position, and goals which is ideal for players who need focused correction, are preparing for tryouts, or want to rebuild confidence after a difficult stretch.
2-on-1 training with the buddy pass lets two athletes train together while still receiving personalized coaching. This is a strong option for siblings, teammates, or friends at a similar skill level. Training with a partner adds movement, timing, and controlled competition that’s harder to recreate solo, while the coach continues correcting technique for both players.
Private Basketball Lessons
Private training sessions may include agility training, dribble penetration, finishing at the rim, off-ball movement, and post-play. Our experienced basketball trainers will make sure you know the fundamentals of basketball, such as passing, dribbling, and shooting, before working on advanced basketball skills training. We’ll work tirelessly to ensure you achieve your goals.
Assessment of Skill Level
We understand that every player has a unique set of strengths and weaknesses, and by conducting an individual assessment, we can tailor our training sessions to meet the specific needs of each player. By doing this, we ensure that every player receives personalized attention and can focus on improving their specific weaknesses.
Our coaches use the assessment to develop a training plan for each player. This plan focuses on areas that need improvement, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, or defense. The plan is designed to help players build a strong foundation of fundamental basketball techniques, which is essential for their success on the court.
We believe that assessing the skill level of each player is the first step in helping them reach their full potential. It helps us identify areas where they need to improve and tailor our basketball training sessions accordingly. By doing so, we can help each player become a better basketball player and achieve their goals.
Fundamental skills On and Off the Court
At You Reach I Teach Basketball Academy, building physical skills is only part of the picture. Our coaches work closely with each athlete to develop basketball IQ and self-confidence alongside their fundamentals including teaching players how to read the game, make quick decisions, and work effectively with teammates.
The training often includes:
- Shooting mechanics and consistency
- Ball-handling with both hands
- Footwork and body control
- Passing and court vision
- Finishing at the rim
- Defensive positioning
- Agility and change of direction
- Spacing and decision-making
- Confidence under pressure
We put equal weight on character: teamwork, communication, dedication, and discipline. These habits help players become more confident and better equipped to handle challenges both on and off the court. Honestly, this is what real development looks like to us, not just a better jump shot, but a more capable athlete and person.
Private Basketball Training FAQs
Is there a private basketball trainer near me?
Yes. we’re based in Gaithersburg, MD and train athletes from across the DMV.
What happens during a private basketball training session?
The coach evaluates the player’s needs and leads a focused workout that may include shooting, dribbling, footwork, passing, finishing, defense, agility, and decision-making, based on the athlete’s goals and skill level.
Is 1-on-1 training better than group training?
Neither is automatically better. Private training provides individual correction, while group training gives players more opportunities to apply skills around other athletes. Many players benefit from both.
What is a 2-on-1 basketball session?
A 2-on-1 session, available through our Buddy Pass, allows two athletes to train with one coach. Each player gets individual feedback while also working through partner drills and controlled competition.
Can beginners take private basketball lessons?
Yes. Private lessons can help beginners learn proper shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork, and spacing at a pace that matches their experience.
How often should a player attend private training?
The right schedule depends on the player’s age, goals, team commitments, and budget. Some athletes train once a week, others more or less frequently.

When you choose You Reach I Teach Basketball Academy for private basketball training, you’re working with coaches who’ve played at the collegiate and professional level, not just coaches who’ve been through a certification course.
